In 2017, Breyer approached me and asked if I would consider sculpting a model for their Stablemate range of model horses. Breyer, a company based in the US, is the number one worldwide producer of plastic model horses to the collector and toy market, producing many millions of models each year. To have one of my sculptures as part of their portfolio is a great honour and I am very proud to introduce him to you.
Darwin is a stablemate (1:32) scale sculpture of a Lipizzaner preforming the Pesade, a movement where the horse rears to a 45 degree angle and holds himself. It is a difficult manoeuvre requiring great training, skill and strength.
The first copies of Darwin were sent out in January 2019 as part of the 2018 Premiere Collectors Club. This limited edition model sports the same colouring and a similar pattern to "Dundee"; a larger model that was issued as part of the 2018 Premiere Collection. With this colouring, Darwin would technically be a part-bred Lipizzaner, or one of a number of similar breeds and part breeds.
